The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Casting News

Has The Hunger Games sequel found its Finnick, Wiress and Beetee?

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is recruiting the former Hunger Games victors from Suzanne Collins’ follow-up novel that the film is based on. Word is that Sam Claflin (Snow White And The Huntsman) is nearing a deal to play Finnick Odair. In the books he is a cocky and good-looking contestant who Katniss is unsure whether to trust when it matters the most.

Other confirmed casting includes Jena Malone (Donnie Darko) as Johanna Mason and one half of the District 3 Quarter Quell tributes, Wiress, who will be played by actress Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction).

The press release said of her character: “Wiress’ eccentricity earns her the nickname ‘Nuts’ from fellow tributes, and though she doesn’t communicate traditionally, her observations and contributions prove invaluable in the Quarter Quell.”

In the running to play her District buddy Beetee is three-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub (Monk). His character is known as ‘Volts’ to fellow contestants, who recognise his knack for turning electricity into a weapon.

Running the Games this year is Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee and Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will be reprising their roles as Katniss, Peeta and Gale respectively, with Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) directing.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released 22 November 2013.
