Lord Of The Rings star Billy Boyd a.k.a. Peregrin Took is officially singing the credits song for The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies.

The news broke after Warner Bros. posted their ‘For Your Consideration’ list for awards season which included The Last Goodbye for the Best Original Song category. The song was written by Boyd, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.

The Last Goodbye will follow on from Ed Sheeran’s I See Fire, which played over the credits for The Desolation Of Smaug and reached the number one spot in New Zealand in its seventh week in the charts.

This will be the second time Boyd has written and performed a song for Middle-earth. His haunting The Edge Of Night was featured in Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, and was responsible for almost 50% of all the goosebumps induced by the film.
