The Grudge reboot adds Betty Gilpin, Jacki Weaver and more

Four more names have been added to the impressive cast of The Grudge reimagining

Nicolas Pesce’s new take on The Grudge is gearing up for production and four new names have been added to the already mightily impressive cast.

Deadline reports that Betty Gilpin (Glow, American Gods), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook, The Voices), Frankie Faison (The Wire, The Silence Of The Lambs) and William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, The Mist) have signed on to star in the reimagining of the classic Japanese ghost story from the writer-director of the stunning horror The Eyes Of My Mother.

The four join Andrea Riseborough, John Cho, Demian Bichir and Lin Shaye in taking on the terrifying curse of the vengeful Kayako, but details about the new film remain fairly thin on the ground. Deadline describes it as a reimagining of the 2004 remake starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, rather than a remake of the 2002 original film by Takashi Shimizu. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who produced the remake and its sequels, are back on board producing through their Ghost House Productions. The screenplay comes from Jeff Buhler, who wrote the film of The Midnight Meat Train and currently has the Pet Sematary remake and George RR Martin’s Nightflyers on the way.

The Grudge will be released in 2019. Keep up with the latest horror news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
