The Flash Season 3: Tom Felton on his and Barry’s “abrasive relationship”

Tom Felton discusses his role in The Flash Season 3

The CW has a fun tradition of left-field casting – in the past, we’ve seen the likes of John Barrowman, Vinnie Jones, Alex Kingston, Mark Hamill, Michael Ironside and Summer Glau take on roles in Arrow and The Flash, and now we can add another familiar face to that rather impressive list.

New to the mix for Season 3 of The Flash is Tom Felton (who you should really recognise as Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter films) as CSI Julian Dorn, who works with Barry Allen in the new reality that Barry created after going back in time to prevent the murder of his father in the Season 2 finale.

“He’s a forensic expert,” Felton details, “so he treads on the toes of much of what Barry is good at. Hence they have a slightly abrasive relationship at first. I say abrasive, but I mean that – clearly because of the events of the season – none of the relationships that Barry has had with other cast members is the same.

As this is a whole new world for Barry, it’ll take some getting used – especially as he initially isn’t aware of the antagonistic relationship that exists between the two of them.

“He’s not familiar with me, but I’m familiar with him, so it’s an odd dynamic. It seems like a love/hate thing at first.”

Given Felton’s other characters (arsehole in Harry Potter, even bigger arsehole in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes), can he assure us that Dorn will be a good guy in contrast?

“Absolutely not,” he laughs. “I would hope the opposite.” Music to our ears.

The Flash Season 3 will air on Sky1 in October 2016. You can download The 25 Greatest DC Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
