The Flash movie has found its Iris West

Director Rick Famuyiwa recruits his Dope lead for The Flash’s Iris

Out of all the upcoming DC/Warner Bros movies, The Flash arguably has the toughest act to follow, with The CW’s successful and hugely popular series currently approaching its third season. With this in mind, we’re keeping an especially close eye on the casting updates for this one, but already it seems to be moving in the right direction, as another one of its leads has been found in the form of Kiersey Clemons, who will play Iris West.

While we’re more familiar with her for her role in comedy Bad Neighbours 2, the most interesting point is that it will see a reunion of sorts with director Rick Famuyiwa, who worked with her on his well-received indie Dope. Either way, it’s a great casting decision – Clemons was excellent in both films, and we’re looking forward to seeing her step up to a bigger stage. And with the always brilliant Ezra Miller alongside her as Barry Allen, it can only bode well.

On this basis, it looks like The Flash will present a slightly more youthful incarnation of the two characters than what has been seen previously (Clemons and Miller are 22 and 23 respectively, compared to the TV’s series’ duo Candice Patton and Grant Gustin, who are 28 and 26). Dare we say it, it’ll hopefully be a bit brighter and more bombastic than what we’ve seen from the DC Cinematic Universe so far. The Flash has traditionally been one of its more relaxed characters, and if Miller’s performance in the Justice League trailer is anything to go by, it seems as if he’ll be very much the comic relief. Which is fine with us.

The Flash will be released in cinemas on 16 March 2018. You can download The 25 Greatest DC Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
