At the Cinema EXPO in Amsterdam yesterday, enterprising contributor to Film1.nl managed to snap a picture of the equally dreaded and anticipated remake of the science classic, The Day The Earth Stood Still.

The film stars Keanu “Whoah Dude” Reeves as Klaatu, an alien who comes to Earth with a message for humanity – change your ways, or be destroyed. As evidenced by the above poster, the film has an expected release date of 12 December 2008. The original 1951 film is seminal in the  genre for its uncompromising stance on nascent Cold War angst and tension, still enduring to this day as one of the finest productions that science fiction has to offer. Whether the remake will be able to capture the zeitgeist of our times so effectively is debatable at best.

Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose) is attached to direct, and the screenplay was written by Ryne Douglas Pearson and David Scarpa (The Last Castle)
