The Dark Tower movie wants Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey is up for two lead roles in The Dark Tower film

It’s been a while since we had any word on the state of The Dark Tower film, which has been moving along so slowly and for so many years that we honestly kind of doubted that we’d ever hear anything.

However, it seems that in its latest incarnation the film based on Stephen King’s epic series of fantasy novels has caught the eye of none other than Matthew McConaughey.

The Wrap reports that McConaughey is being courted to star in the film that will be directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair, the writer of the original The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), and that he’s been offered two roles: troubled hero Roland Deschain and the villainous The Man In Black. They suggest that “McConaughey is leaning towards embracing his dark side.” Interesting.

It’s very early days in the discussions, but per the site, “While insiders insist it’s early and neither side has committed, they admit preliminary discussions have taken place and both parties are interested in striking a deal.”

The star is obviously in high demand at the moment and gets linked to every blockbuster under the sun, including Josh Boone’s equally long-gestating film of King’s The Stand. He did recently turn down a role in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2.

What do you think? Would you rather see him as the Gunslinger? Or do you see him more as a Man In Black?

The Dark Tower is set for release on 13 January 2017. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
