The Conjuring 2 director is back for more

Guess who’s returning to horror to direct The Conjuring 2?

After yesterday’s announcement that The Conjuring 2 was being delayed, we’ve now been given a reason why. Director James Wan will be making his return to the horror genre to direct.

Deadline reports that has “closed a big two-pronged deal with New Line Cinema. He will return to direct The Conjuring 2, with shooting to begin next summer.”

This comes after Wan’s announcement last year that he would be taking a break from horror, during which time he went to direct Fast And Furious 7. Reportedly it is Wan’s commitment to promoting that film which means that The Conjuring 2 will get going a little later than planned.

This is definitely good news, and not too much of a surprise given Wan’s obvious love for the genre. However, his wanting to take a break was understandable, given that he had The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2 come out in quick succession last year.

Wan will also be helping to develop horror movies at New Line, who recently enjoyed great financial success with low-budget horror Annabelle, which spun off from The Conjuring. Bring on the creepy dolls, the terrifying clapping and the things that go bump in the night.

The Conjuring 2 will be released in 2016. You can buy The Conjuring for £7.20 at Amazon.co.uk and keep up with the latest horror news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
