Texas Chainsaw prequel director choices are promising

Rumoured director wish-list for Leatherface looks awesome…if true

The previously reported prequel to last year’s Texas Chainsaw, Leatherface, is revving up and Millennium films have quite the impressive wish-list of potential directors.

Bloody Disgusting report that the production company have their eyes on the excellent Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the French duo behind the brilliant Inside (A L’Interieur) and Livide, and Among The Living, which you may have seen at this year’s FrightFest.

Also on the list are Starry Eyes writer-directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmeyer, which also played at FrightFest. Their stylish tale of a young actress willing to do whatever it takes to succeed certainly made an impression on the festival audience.

The site notes that this is a wishlist and neither pair has confirmed yet, and we’re sceptical in particular about Maury and Bustillo. They were linked to the massively troubled and as-yet-unmade Hellraiser reboot for a while before bowing out, and they’ve consistently made choices that guaranteed them more creative control in favour of more money (including making Livide in France and in French, rather than in England).

It would also seem like an odd choice for Kolsch and Widmeyer given the arthouse cred they’ve been enjoying as a result of Starry Eyes.

Still, if this wishlist is true it’s an interesting indication of what kind of thing Millennium are looking for from their next director: genre credibility.
