Texas Chainsaw 3D could get 6 sequels, sorry

Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise optioned for a possible 7 films included Texas Chainsaw 3D

Texas Chainsaw 3D, thanks to a lack of review screenings, took $21 million in the US on its opening weekend – already making back its $20 million cost despite the hordes of fans tweeting their dismay upon leaving, and one-star reviews like our own.

To put that in perspective, the recent kings of over-franchised diminished returns, Saw (6 sequels since 2004) and Paranormal Activity (3 sequels since 2007), opened to $18 million and $19 million in the US respectively.

According to Bloody Disgusting, this means we’re likely to be seeing at least one sequel as the producers bought the rights to 7 potential Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, which is pretty bold as the original series only managed 3 sequels, and then the reboot got a prequel.

Texas Chainsaw 3D is in cinemas now, check out the feature in the current issue of SciFiNow.
