Iron Man director Jon Favreau will be directing the pilot episode of MTV’s Shannara TV series, based on the books by fantasy heavyweight Terry Brooks.

According to DeadlineSmallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar are writing the script, and that they will executive produce the series alongside Favreau.

If MTV likes the pilot, it will get a straight-to-series order based on the plot of Brooks’ second Shannara book, The Elfstones Of Shannrra.

MTV president Susanne Daniels said, “I am thrilled to be working with the Smallville creators Al and Miles again along with the amazingly talented Jon Favreau. We feel that the Shannara novels are a perfect fit for MTV, as this type of fantasy genre has continuously proved to resonate with our audience.”

Anyone else perplexed by MTV’s claim that “this type of fantasy genre has continuously proved to resonate with our audience”?
