With Halloween fast approaching, many fans will be dressing as Art the Clown for the spooky season, as well as digging out their Terrifier box set to re-watch Damien Leone’s gory trilogy. Now, the star of the film, David Howard Thornton, has been talking about the fourth film, which is being written by Leone right now and is set to close the series.

Speaking this week to Slasher Radio (via Bloody Disgusting), Thornton says on Part IV:

“I’m very excited, but I don’t know a whole lot, because this time around Damien has been keeping everything very close to his vest about what’s happening in the script,”

“Lauren [Lavera], Samantha [Scaffidi], and I, in the past when he’s been writing the other scripts, he’s been consulting us the whole entire time, running ideas by us. This time, he’s been pretty much silent.”

Thornton continues, “He just goes, ‘Oh yeah, you’re gonna love the origin story, Dave. You’re gonna love how we do it.’ And he said also, ‘The finale is bat-shit insane. You’re gonna have a lot of fun with that.” Other than that, I don’t know, but that makes me excited.”

There has been talk that a fourth film would mark the end of the series, but Thornton thinks there might be more from Art before too long, adding:

“I feel like this might be the finale of this story arc that [Leone]’s going with for right now, and might give it a rest for a few years and might return later on to it. I have no idea, but I’m excited nonetheless.”

“I have so much faith in him.”

Earlier this year, Leone said, “I know this word gets used a lot, but it’s going to be epic. It’s not going to disappoint. You’re going to get Art’s backstory in the first 15 minutes of the movie.”

The Terrifier series first launched back in 2016, and grossed over $421,000 at the US box office from its $35,000 budget. The sequel, released in 2022, earned $15 million worldwide from a $250,000 budget.
Terrifier 3 was the most budgeted film of the series – $ 2 million – but topped the US box office last October and ended its worldwide run with a $ 90 million gross, becoming the highest-grossing unrated film of all time.
