Asked at Rogue Events‘ Asylum 8 Supernatural convention whether her character – Sioux Falls sheriff Jody Mills – can step into the shoes left empty when SPOILER BEGINS! the pair’s surrogate father and veteran hunter Bobby Singer died in ‘Death’s Door’ (he’s popped up again since, but… well, he’s not quite around like he used to be) SPOILER ENDS, Rhodes answered no… with a side helping of yes.

“On the one hand, because I am a fan of the show, nothing can replace Bobby,” said Rhodes. “Bobby is stuck forever at the top of that mountain.

“But I also feel like Sam and Dean need some emotional support that isn’t of a sexual nature,” Rhodes continued of the possible dynamic for Supernatural Season 8. “And as much as I’d love to be there for them for that, I’m – say it with me – old! That’s OK! It means I’ll stay alive longer, and I would like to see them with a little human support. With a gun. I’d like to see that happen, but my needs are not first among the things they consider when writing the show. For some weird reason.

Not that she’s knocking the role, mind…

“I’ve been on six episodes of Supernatural and I’ve already had more actual character motivation and intelligent thought and humour [than The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody] – it’s written for a slightly different audience, but it’s really nice to play someone so well written. It’s really great.”

Supernatural Season 8 is expected to air 3 October 2012 on The CW. Season 7 is out DVD from 5 November 2012, preorder it now from Amazon.co.uk for £28 or on Blu-ray for £36.
