The Berlanti-verse continues to expand, as CBS has given a full first season order to Supergirl.

Variety reports that Supergirl is the first of the network’s pick-ups for 2015-2016, following “Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s cousin, at age 24, when she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be, after leaving Krypton and hiding her powers.”

It’s not exactly a surprise to see this one take flight given Berlanti’s success at the CW with Arrow and The Flash.

Benoist (Whiplash) stars alongside Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Alex Danvers, David Harewood, and Laura Benanti will play Kara’s birth mother, as well as original Supergirl Helen Slater and Lois & Clark‘s Dean Cain.

Supergirl will air on CBS in the US this Autumn. No UK broadcaster has been announced. Keep up with the latest superpowered TV news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
