Supergirl news: Teri Hatcher joining Season 2 and more

Rachel Bloom has written a song for Supergirl’s musical episode

It’s a great day for Supergirl news!

First of all, fans of Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman will be thrilled to know that Lois herself, Teri Hatcher, is joining the cast of Supergirl.

Hatcher’s role is being kept secret for now, but we do know that she’s set to play a villain that will become the new Big Bad of Supergirl Season 2.

Of Hatcher’s casting, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said: “No offence to any of the wonderful actresses who have also played the part, but Teri Hatcher is my all time favourite Lois Lane. To have her come back to the SuperWorld in a completely different part is an unbelievable gift to me, [co-creator Greg Berlanti], and the fans.”

The second bit of news is that The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star, writer and co-creator Rachel Bloom has written a brand new song for Supergirl‘s upcoming musical episode, ‘Duet‘. As major fans of both CXG and the Girl of Steel, we couldn’t be more hyped. We’ve literally reached peak hype levels.

Bloom’s song is called ‘Superfriends‘ (AWWWW!) and will be performed on the show by Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin as Supergirl and the Flash respectively.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom is writing a song

In a statement first published by Buzzfeed News following the news of Bloom’s involvement, Bloom said: “As soon as I heard that they were doing a musical crossover, I e-mailed Mark Pedowitz who connected me to Greg and Andrew. I immediately offered them my services.

“I am so excited to contribute more to the upward trend that is musicals in television and film. Music can be one of the most amazing and efficient forms of storytelling and character development. Also, it was really fun to write a comedy song for two superheroes.”

Musical theatre composing team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have also penned a song for the episode called ‘Runni’ Home To You‘, set to be performed by Gustin.

In a statement, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said: “Benj and Justin are the premiere song-writing duo of our time.

“Not only are they two of the most talented people Greg [Berlanti] and I have ever met, they are also two of the nicest. To have them be a part of our musical episode is beyond our wildest expectations. We hope everyone falls in love with the song they wrote for us as much as we did.”

Supergirl Season 2 is currently airing on Tuesdays on Sky1 HD in the UK. Get a behind the scenes look at the show in the latest issue of SciFiNow.
