Suicide Squad movie wants Terminator star for Deadshot

DeadshotFollowing reports that Margot Robbie has been cast as Harley Quinn in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, it’s now being reported that Deadshot is the next character being fitted for an actor.

Variety reports that the increasingly busy Jai Courtney is “in talks for a major role in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad that could prove to be Batman villain Deadshot.”

The number of qualifiers in that statement is quite powerful, given that “sources” have done the talking, and that the role hasn’t even been determined, but Courtney is certainly in demand at the moment. He’s got Divergent sequel Insurgent on the way, not to mention his role as Kyle Reese in Terminator: Genisys, as well as several less-high-profile projects. If he does sign on to play the assassin with the cybernetic eye and a deathwish, it’s hard to imagine him having time for a holiday any time soon.

Variety reports that Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Jared Leto are in “various stages of discussion” to join the film, with Leto eyed for The Joker as previously reported, while Hardy is apparently up for founding Suicide Squad member Rick Flagg and Smith reportedly wanted for The Flash’s nemesis Digger Harkness, otherwise known as Captain Boomerang, which all has the faint whiff of “wishlist” about it, but we’ll see.

Suicide Squad is set for release in cinemas 5 August 2016. For more on the comics that have inspired the movie, pick up our 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now!
