Following the news that Tom Hardy had dropped out of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie, it was heavily rumoured that Ayer’s End Of Watch star Jake Gyllenhaal would step into the role of Rick Flag.

Variety reports that this will not be the case. The Nightcrawler star will not be appearing in Suicide Squad, and the hunt is still on for a Hardy replacement. Gyllenhaal is currently busy on Broadway but there’s not been a reason given for his passing on the project.

Suicide Squad stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Viola Davis, and is currently set to start filming in April. The hunt for a suitable Hardy replacement continues…

Suicide Squad is set for release in cinemas 5 August 2016. For more on the comics that have inspired the movie, pick up our 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now!
