Following the news that Scott Eastwood and Ray Olubowale had been cast in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad in mystery roles, it looks like one of the biggest bads in Batman’s rogues gallery has been cast.

The Wrap reports that Lost‘s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been cast as Waylon Jones, better known as Killer Croc, while Karen Fukuhara has also joined the project in an unknown role. Akinnuoye-Agbaje recently got excellent reviews for his film-stealing performance in Pompeii, and he’s also been seen in The Thing and Thor: The Dark World.

If this is correct, it’s exciting to think about the more outlandish Batman villains being brought to the big screen. There wasn’t a lot of room for reptilian people in Christopher Nolan’s grounded Batman universe, and it might give us a clue as to the tone that Ayer is going for.

Although he’s often represented as a more cartoonish monster with a taste for human flesh, he’s also been depicted as a disfigured gangland enforcer whose name comes from a skin condition and his very sharp teeth, as seen in Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso’s Broken City.

Batman Broken City Killer CrocSuicide Squad stars Will Smith as Deashot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Suicide Squad is set for release in cinemas 5 August 2016. For more on the comics that have inspired the movie, pick up our 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now!
