Steven Spielberg’s take on Ready Player One has a release date

Back in March, it was officially confirmed that Steven Spielberg, the director of classics like Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and ET, would be directing the film adaptation of Ernest Cline’s videogame-friendly dystopian novel Ready Player One. Now, as The Wrap reports, we have a release date.

With the director having finished work on the Tom Hanks-starring Cold War thriller Bridge Of Spies, he will follow up The BFG with his take on Ready Player One, which will hit cinemas on 15 December 2017.

Speaking about the project, Dan Fellman, Warner Bros’ president of domestic distribution, said, “Any film from Steven Spielberg is an event film, so it felt right to date this thrilling new project from one of our greatest filmmakers for the holiday season.”

In addition to directing, Spielberg will also take on producing duties, alongside Donald De Line (Body Of Lies, Green Lantern), Dan Farah (Armored, The Shannara Chronicles) and Kristie Macosko Krieger (Catch Me If You Can, Minority Report).

Ready Player One will be released in cinemas on 15 December 2017. For more on the biggest movies, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
