Diego Luna as Cassian Andor will lead a new Star Wars spin-off show for Disney’s upcoming streaming service

Diego Luna is set to reprise is role as Cassian Andor in a new Star Wars TV series, which will air exclusively on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

In a statement, Luna said: “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

Cassian Andor was a rebel spy that assisted Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones) in stealing the Death Star plans in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The new series will be a prequel to Rogue One set in the early years of the Rebellion, and is being described as a “rousing spy thriller.” Production is scheduled to start in 2019.

Disney+ is yet to launch, but the company seems keep to jump on the VOD train, with shows surrounding Marvel characters already lined up too.

Speaking during an earnings call with investors, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said: “In this era of unprecedented consumer choice, brands matter more than ever. We always believed we had the brands and content to be extremely competitive and to thrive alongside Netflix, Amazon, and anyone else in the market.”
