Star Wars Scalextric coming early 2012

Star Wars Scalextric depict the Battle Of Endor and the Death Star trench run, with expansion packs and extra models still to come

Toymakers Hornby have signed a three year licensing deal to produce Star Wars branded Scalextric, inspired by their track-based racing system which was first introduced in in 1957.

Two sets have been announced so far, the Death Star trench run from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, featuring Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced and Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing, and the Battle Of Endor from Star Wars: Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi, which features Luke Skywalker and a Scout Trooper on speeder bikes.

Future models have been promised, with the only one confirmed being, er, an Ewok speeder bike.

Both are described as “Pursuit / battle / jousting set[s]”, so there’s certainly more to it than racing some Star Wars-branded race cars around a track like the second coming of Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing.
