Warning: the below article contains SPOILERS for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
By now, hopefully the majority of you will have seen Rogue One, the first Star Wars anthology movie. If not then stop reading now, because there are spoilers ahead. You have been warned.
Anyway, those of you who were disappointed to have not seen more of Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera in Rogue One are in luck, as Whitaker will reprise the role in animated form once more in the second half of Star Wars: Rebels Season 3. As a representative of one of the more extreme elements of the Rebel Alliance, it’ll be interesting to see him cross paths with the likes of Hera, Kanan and Ezra.
It’s kind of fitting, as he of course first appeared in animated form in The Clone Wars as a young fighter, being trained directly by such luminaries as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano. As a constant presence in the Star Wars universe, it’s nice to see him involved, and it raises the hopes that we will see more Rogue One characters in Rebels. In the meantime, Whitaker will make his debut in ‘Ghosts Of Geonosis’, which will air on Disney XD from 7 January 2017.
“It’s an incredible honor to have Forest Whitaker play Saw in Rebels,'” says series executive producer Dave Filoni. “Forest did a great job at capturing Saw in a way that is a bit mad, a bit crazed, a bit afraid, but also a bit sympathetic. He sees something coming but no one will take action before it’s too late.”
Star Wars: Rebels – Season 3 will return to Disney XD on 7 January 2017 at 9:30am. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
