Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings sword instructor Bob Anderson has died aged 89, he also worked on Highlander, The Princess Bride, Highlander and The Hobbit

Bob Anderson Star WarsWorld champion fencer and Olympic veteran Bob Anderson, who choreographed the swordfights in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy and replaced David Prowse as Darth Vader for the fight scenes in The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, died aged 89 on 1 January 2012.

Anderson’s long relationship with sci-fi began in 1968 when he played a fighting guard in the Patrick Troughton-era Doctor Who serial ‘Enemy Of The World’, he then went on to either fight or co-ordinate the fights in the likes of Highlander, The Princess Bride, all three Star Wars films, Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl, and most recently, The Hobbit.

Fencing Academy president Philip Bruce said, “He was truly one of our greatest fencing masters and a world-class film fight director and choreographer and both the fencing community and film world will miss him.”
