As if determined to channel the spirit of JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson has been keeping his cards close to his chest as he approaches the end of filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII. However, he’s clearly not averse to giving fans the occasional quick glimpse of what’s to come, as evidenced by the below photo from the set, which was shared via his Tumblr page:
Arriving with the caption ‘In the home stretch’, here we have what looks to be a Jedi cape – is it Luke Skywalker’s, or pehaps Rey has been given her own one? We’re more inclined to point towards the former option, but you never know.
As regards the location itself, it looks like we’re back on Ahch-To, the planet Luke was found hiding out on at the end of The Force Awakens, and presumably where we’ll pick up the action at the start of Episode VIII. It may be miles away, and we have Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to look forward to in the meantime, but hell, we’re excited.
With Johnson both directing and penning the script, he is being assisted behind the scenes by producers Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, with JJ Abrams, Tommy Harper and Jason D. McGatlin on board as executive producers. From the cast, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels will reprise their roles, and will be joined by newcomers Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.
Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released in cinemas on 15 December 2017. You can download our Star Wars: The Original Trilogy and Star Wars: Expanded Universe Complete Manuals from GreatDigitalMags.com. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
