Following rumours that screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) had left Star Wars: Episode VII, Lucasfilm head honcho and executive producer Kathleen Kennedy took to StarWars.com to confirm that rewrites will be undertaken by director JJ Abrams and The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi‘s Lawrence Kasdan.

“I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and JJ working on the script,” said Kennedy.

“There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. JJ, of course, is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point, and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production.”

It’s tough to imagine any scenario that gets Kasdan back in control of a Star Wars script to be a bad one…

Star Wars: Episode VII is due in cinemas Summer 2015. You can buy Star Wars: The Complete Saga for £57.99 on Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk.
