Star Trek superfan introduces The Next Generation

Trekkie next door Raules Davies to front Star Trek re-run campaign

Mancunian Trek fan Raules Davies has become the unlikely figurehead for satellite channel CBS Action‘s complete run of all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran from 1987 to 1994 and completely reinvigorated the franchise.

A hotel night manager by day, Davies will introduce each episode with trivia and gossip, drawing on his huge history of Trek fandom. He explained, “I was approached by a CBS camera crew [at last year’s Comic Con] and asked questions about Star Trek.  I remember the last thing I did, after they had concluded the interview, was turn to the camera and say, ‘Star Trek on CBS Action- to watch anything else would be… illogical!’

“I keep expecting to wake up”, he continued of the opportunity. “I’m elated and slightly scared. I’m incredibly excited about the whole thing. I’m in a position where I hope I can make a difference to Star Trek and its fans and how we’re perceived.”

Chris Sharp, Chief Programming Officer at CBS Action, said, “Raules is an absolute natural.  We knew the moment we interviewed him that he was a star in the making. We wanted to put our fans at the heart of the marketing campaign, so we’re delighted to have Raules spearheading the activity.”

The first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, ‘Encounter At Farpoint’, will be shown on Wednesday July 20 at 11.15, 17.00 and 20.00, and will continue every weeknight!

The accompanying post campaign showing people split between their ‘normal’ side and their ‘fan side’ is pretty cool too!
