Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 trailer searches for Spock, meets Pike, has fun

Spock’s hunting for answers and Burnham’s ruffling feathers in the first Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 trailer

The first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 has arrived and it’s big on Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Spock references and the fact that there’s going to be a lot more fun happening this year.

The show had something of a speedbump recently as showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J Berg were fired, but producer Alex Kurtzman stepped in and everything seems to be back on track.

There’s also the news that Rebecca Romjin (X-Men) has joined the cast as Number One.

She joins fellow newcomers Anson Mount (Christopher Pike), Tig Notaro (USS Hiawatha Chief Engineer Jet Reno) and Alan Van Sprang (Section 31 Agent Leland).

And if the new season isn’t enough, there’ll be a series of standalone minisodes titled Short Treks. The Verge reports that they’ll focus on Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson), Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Saru (Doug Jones) and a character stranded alone on a ship played by Aldis Hodge (Black Mirror). These episodes will be about 10-15 minutes each.

There was also confirmation that Wilson Cruz’s Dr Hugh Culber will be back for Season 2, fulfilling the creative team’s promise that we haven’t seen the last of him or the end of his and Paul Stamets’ (Anthony Rapp) love story.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 begins early in 2019. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
