It’s official folks: the title of Bryan Fuller’s new Star Trek TV series will be called Star Trek: Discovery.
While there’s nothing else to go on (no cast members have yet been revealed), it definitely seems like a solid name choice, and very much fits in with the Star Trek tradition. Firstly, like the last three series, the show is named after its flagship. Secondly, it would seem to follow the whole ‘brave new world’ aspect of the show.
Without getting too preachy, we’re living in a time sorely lacking in optimism. Throughout its various incarnations, Star Trek has always been optimistic, progressive and forward-thinking – something that Fuller seemed to acknowledge.
Speaking about the series, Fuller said, “What the new series has to do is to…push boundaries…to give us hope for the future… We have to celebrate a progression of our species. And right now, we need a little help.” Amen to that.
