Star Trek Beyond adds The Expanse star to cast

A last-minute addition has been made to the cast of Star Trek Beyond

It’s not all that long until Star Trek Beyond hits cinema screens worldwide, but it would appear that work isn’t completely finished on the movie, what with the recent announcement courtesy of Deadline that Emmy award-winning actress Shohreh Aghdashloo has been added to the cast of the most recent Star Trek movie.

According to the report, Aghdashloo (who is currently starring in Syfy’s The Expanse, and might be recognisable to genre fans for her appearances in the likes of X-Men: The Last Stand, The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters and Grimm) will be taking on the role of ‘High Command of the Federation’, with her addition apparently being the result of a number of reshoots that have been ordered. Despite this, there has been no news of any delays as a result of this, so it looks like we should be able to watch it on time.

It’s an interesting state of affairs really, because apart from the largely narrative-free trailer, we haven’t heard all that much about the actual plot, with the new team seemingly embracing an Abrams-esque approach to on-set secrecy. Nonetheless, we’re sure that more will be revealed at a later date.

Aghdashloo joins returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Cho, as well as fellow new additions Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Lydia Wilson. Justin Lin replaces JJ Abrams as director this time round, with Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John D Payne and Patrick McKay on writing duties and Abrams producing alongside Orci and Bryan Burk.

Star Trek Beyond will be released in cinemas on 22 July 2016 – you can download Star Trek: The Complete Manual from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
