It’s been a dramatic couple of weeks for fans of the enduring Star Trek franchise as not only did Star Trek 3 director Roberto Orci bow out, but rumours swirled around a possible change in direction for the franchise.
According to Deadline, Orci’s replacement is now confirmed as Justin Lin.
As director of three films in the Fast & Furious series, he’s clearly an accomplished action hand but it’s hardly a choice that’s going to delight Trekkers, as unlike Orci and Star Trek/Star Trek Into Darkness director JJ Abrams he’s not obviously grounded in science fiction.
For those hardliners who refuse to accept the new film series, the dream of a ‘true’ Star Trek movie probably seems even further away…
