Star Trek 3 William Shatner responds to cameo rumours

William Shatner’s got some news about his reported cameo

The rumours that Roberto Orci had written a cameo for William Shatner’s Captain Kirk (as well as Leonard Nimoy’s Spock) in Star Trek 3 started flurrying yesterday, and the writer-director has weighed in, as has the Captain himself.

Orci took to TrekMovie to respond to the rumours, stating “love no win scenarios. In theoy [sic], damned either way…Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor.”

Shatner was a little more upfront on Twitter, presumably responding to a barrage of excited questions and has pinned the following to the top of his page.

“Let’s talk ST. I don’t know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it’s just rhetoric to cause hype.”

This is pretty much the reaction you’d expect. Star Trek Into Darkness was dogged by endless rumours (many of which turned out to be correct) and the pressure to keep absolutely everything under wraps must be enormous. Now we just need a deliberately misleading comment from Karl Urban to properly muddy the waters…

Star Trek 3 is set for release in 2016. You can buy Star Trek/Star Trek Into Darkness Double Pack on Blu-ray for £17.62 at Amazon.co.uk and keep up to date with the latest in sci-fi with the new issue of SciFiNow.
