Speaking to KOMO News Radio, Jonathan Frakes made his desire to direct the Trek sequel very clear indeed.
“Hashtag, BringInRiker! I’m all over it. I’m all over it.” he told the show.
He revealed that he had reached out to JJ Abrams and Paramount. “I would love that job,” he said. “I say, unabashedly, I’d be great at it and would love to do it.”
Frakes previously directed the Next Generation films First Contact and Insurrection, and he was behind the camera for the 2006 Thunderbirds movie. Since then, he’s plied his trade in TV on shows like The Librarians, Dollhouse and Falling Skies.
He is aware that his chances are slim but Frakes is campaigning hard. “I’m trying to keep the lid on how excited I am about the possibility, knowing it’s such a long shot. But there’s nothing I would like better.”
