Benedict Cumberbatch, currently starring in Mark Gatiss’ and Stephan Moffat’s Sherlock as the titular detective, has been added to the cast of JJ Abrams Star Trek sequel as the villain.
Previous rumours that the film would feature the return of original Trek movie baddie Kahn have been denied.
Cumberbatch is also appearing alongside his Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again as the voice of Smaug the dragon and the Necromancer.
The as yet untitled Star Trek sequel is due in cinemas 17 May 2013.
