The story comes through Sci-Fi Wire, who also elaborate further, saying that the 38-year-old actor will appear in the ninth episode of the show’s second season, entitled ‘Penance’, where he will be playing a character named Jimmy. Shanks will also be guest-starring later this year in the new Stargate spin-off Universe, where he will be reprising his role of Dr Daniel Jackson. Previous roles for the actor since Stargate’s cancellation have included a single-episode role on A Town Called Eureka, a recurring role in Burn Notice’s second season, and a three-episode stint on 24.

Sanctuary begins its second season this autumn, and is currently filming in Canada. The series stars Amanda Tapping as Dr Helen Magnus, an immortal woman who runs a research centre-cum-safe house for those with abilities or a heritage outside of what we would consider to be normal. The series is noticeable for its lack of practical sets, using green screen technology extensively to fill in the backdrops.
