Shane Black’s The Predator casts Moonlight star

The Predator hunts down star of Moonlight to join Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn

Things are slowly but surely moving ahead on Shane Black’s The Predator as another name has been added to the cast.

THR reports that Moonlight’s Trevante Rhodes has joined Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse, Office Christmas Party) and Boyd Holbrook (Logan, Narcos) in the latest movie in Fox’s Predator franchise, which is being written by Black and The Monster Squad‘s Fred Dekker. Black will also direct the film, which means that we’re really very excited about this one.

Plot details are being kept secret and safe at the moment, but THR states that Rhodes will be playing “the best friend of Holbrook’s character; both are said to be ex-Marines.” Munn will apparently be playing a scientist.

Moonlight has yet to hit UK screens (seriously, can we just have Moonlight now?) but it has received rave reviews wherever it’s played and is certainly one of the strongest contenders going into awards season, and Barry Jenkins’ film has provided Rhodes with his big break-out role.

There have been a lot of rumours about what we can expect from the movie (it seems as though the story about it being set in the suburbs might be true, maybe), and, given that The Predator won’t start shooting until this winter, we can expect plenty more “rumoured to be…” and “apparently…” For example, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is listed as “(rumoured)” on the film’s IMDb page and we’re going to wait and see before we report that as fact.

Regardless, it’s very exciting that this series has lured Black back in this long after he polished the script of the 1987 original. And starred as Hawkins, let’s not forget that.
