The Saw juggernaut roars on with the fifth instalment in Jigsaw’s Darwinian-themed murderous games set for release in time for Halloween, and LionsGate has revealed the first teasing glimpses of what we can expect from the film.
Mentalist copper Hoffman, played by Costas Mandylor, is reported to be the last person alive to carry on the legacy of Jigsaw and when the secret of his distinctly non ‘Serve and Protect’ activities gets out he is left with no choice other than to go and start tying up all the loose ends, so to speak. The cast sheet for this fifth outing for the franchise sees the return of Scott Patterson as Agent Strahm and Betsy Russell as Jill and Tobin Bell’s Jigsaw will be back from the dead once more, despite popping his clogs at the end of Saw III and spending all of number four grumbling about the place in flashback.
Saw III and IV production designer David Hackl will be taking over the directing reins from Darren Lynn Bousman with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan handling scripting duties. Series creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell are on board as executive producers.
