The family sitcom gets a bit of a twist in Santa Clarita Diet, the new horror comedy from the creator of Better Off Ted and starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant.
As you can see, the standard family sitcom set-up (Can they have it all? Is suburban paradise all it’s cracked up to be?) gets quite a powerful subversion courtesy of Drew Barrymore’s zombification. There’s an excellent supporting cast glimpsed here, including Nathan Fillion, Patton Oswalt, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Natalie Morales and Richard T Jones.
We’re huge fans of Better Off Ted, the cast is great and we do love a bit of gory suburban mayhem. We’ve got our fingers crossed for this latest addition to Netflix’s original genre shows.
“In Santa Clarita Diet, Joel (Timothy Olyphant, Justified) and Sheila (Drew Barrymore, Blended) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita with their teenaged daughter Abby (Liv Hewson), until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending their lives down a road of death and destruction…but in a good way.
Santa Clarita Diet stars Drew Barrymore as Sheila Hammond, Timothy Olyphant as Joel Hammond, Liv Hewson as Abby Hammond and Skylar Gisondo as Eric Bemis.”
Santa Clarita Diet will be available on Netflix on 3 February. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
