It’s never been a better time to be a RuneScaper, as the game receives its biggest update in 12 years. RuneScape 3 marks the game’s transition to the cutting-edge browser technology of HTML 5, which means improved graphics and superior audio.
As ever, the narrative takes inspiration from classic role-playing adventure games where you can be the Warrior, Ranger, Wizard or Adventurer. But this will be the first time that player decisions directly shape the future of Gielinor, its inhabitants and scenery. Hence the developer, Jagex, has created an inaugural in-game world event, The Battle For Lumbridge.
Each week, gamers’ choices shape the fate of characters and stories, with the ultimate outcome setting the course for RuneScape’s future. Incidentally, if you’ve been part of the game up until now, your account will continue as it moves into the Sixth Age.
If you’re not one of the 220 million players that have joined in the game since its launch in 2001, it’s a free-to-play MMO set in the medieval fantasy realm of Gielinor. Players can embark on adventures as they please, cast magical spells, slay monsters and build their resources.
Mark Gerhard, CEO of Jagex says, “We have a solid line up of the most ambitious innovative content and ground breaking technical innovations ever, all of which will be coming to fruition over the course of the next few months, it’s going to be an incredibly exciting time for the community both past and present.”
Runescape 3 is available 22 July 2013. Log in to begin gaming.
