Robert Zemeckis and History Channel working on UFO drama

The History channel’s next scripted series is about the USAF’s UFO investigations

It looks like the History channel wants to branch out a little more: the network has just bagged itself another scripted show after giving a straight-to-series order to UFO series Blue Book.

Back The The Future and Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis and A+E Studios are coming together for the 10-episode series, which was created and written by David O’Leary.

Blue Book is set to depict the true events that surrounded the US Air Four-sanctioned investigations into UFO sightings.

According to THR, it “follows a college professor recruited by the Air Force to research paranormal files from the 1950s and ’60s, each episode drawing inspiration for actual files for a blend of UFO theories with authentic historical information”.

The show will be History’s fourth scripted series, coming off the back of the success earnt by popular shows like Vikings.

“Rarely have I been associated with a project that is a perfect fusion of historical fact and extraordinary entertainment,” Zemeckis said. “We are grateful for A+E Studios’ and History’s support for what I know will be a fabulous series.”

It’s kind of a big deal that Zemeckis is involved, seeing as he hardly ever ventures into TV, and it makes us even more intrigued by the new series.

Blue Book is inspired by the true covert events of an era in American history shrouded in mystery,” added A+E Studios president Paul Buccieri.

“Robert Zemeckis and the creative team have shaped an incredibly compelling narrative, building upon History’s unique, growing brand of fact-based scripted programming.”
