Robert Downey Jr has been confirmed for the role of Sherlock Holmes in the upcoming Guy Ritchie adaptation, according to Variety.
Along with his role as Tony Stark on Iron Man 2, Downey will be donning the pipe and tweed cap for the film, which is said to be based on the original novels and the comic book treatment from Lionel Wigram.
To clear up any confusion, some of you may have seen a report that Sacha Baron Cohen was signed up to play Holmes. This is true, however, the Borat actor is a part of a comedic take on the novels from Judd Apatow, whereas Ritchie’s separate project is more serious in nature, and will go into production first.
