Ready Player One movie casts excellent lead actress

Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One movie has nabbed Signal and Bates Motel star for lead role

With Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline’s acclaimed science fiction novel Ready Player One already storming ahead into production, it was only a matter of time before the first cast members were confirmed. Now, we have our first confirmation, with The Hollywood Reporter announcing the Bates Motel and Ouija star Olivia Cooke is on board.

Set in a dreary, quasi-dystopian world in which its inhabitants spend as often as they can logged into a virtual world called Oasis, Ready Player One follows young gamer Wade, who is one of many embarking on a quest within the game’s world to find the fortune that has been hidden with its virtual confines by its deceased creator. Cooke will be playing Canadian blogger Sam – or ‘Art3mis’, as she goes by in Oasis – who ends up joining forces with Sam.

If the rest of the casting follows in the vein of Cooke then we’re definitely excited, having been impressed with her in pretty much everything we’ve seen her in, from James Herbert miniseries The Secret Of Crickley Hall and horror reboot Bates Motel to the acclaimed The Signal and Hammer’s lacklustre The Quiet Ones. Hopefully this will be the moment she breaks out into the big time.

Ready Player One will be released in cinemas in 2017. For more news on the biggest movies, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
