The first of the new round of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles movie reboots may have found its director.

The Wrap reports that The Fault In Our Stars‘ Josh Boone is in talks with Universal to helm The Vampire Lestat, which takes its name from Rice’s second book in the series – first published in 1985.

Boone himself denies the report, but The Wrap are standing by their news, adding that that “rather than a remake of Interview With the Vampire, the new film is expected to draw from the second and third books in Rice’s series — The Vampire Lestat and The Queen Of The Damned — and will likely be faithful to the source material.”

While 1994’s Interview With The Vampire is still regarded as a gothic horror classic – and it’s a relief that Universal are leaving it be – 2002’s Queen Of The Damned is best forgotten.

Perhaps this is a chance to do right by Rice’s epic saga…

Anne Rice’s Prince Lestat is due 30 October 2014, you can pre-order it for £12.91 from Amazon.co.uk. If you love vampires, get SciFiNow’s digital-exclusive Horror Handbook: Hammer Horror for £1.99 on iPad or iPhone.
