Predator reboot Shane Black to direct and write treatment

Iron Man 3’s Shane Black will direct a Predator reboot for Fox, Fred Dekker to write

predatorShane Black, the writer-director behind Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3, has signed on to write a treatment for a Predator reboot, and he’s also going to direct.

THR reports that Fox has hired Black, who played Hawkins in the original film, to write the treatment, that will then be given to The Monster Squad‘s Fred Dekker to complete. Black will “oversee” the writing and is attached to direct.

Black is extremely busy at the moment, as he’s trying to get Doc Savage off the ground, while developing crime drama The Nice Guys, the latter of which has Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe rumoured to star.

The Predator franchise has been on the shelf since the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators, which found Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo and Laurence Fishburne dropped onto a planet of the alien hunters for sport.

No plot synopsis has been revealed, but if the word “reboot” is being used, presumably we’ll see the Predators back on Earth. Black’s involvement is certainly encouraging, although it may force him to abandon his recurring Christmas motif.

You can buy Predator on Blu-ray for £6.50 at Amazon.co.uk.
