Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has been quick to douse the flames of bile-spewing overreaction, telling Collider that the new Predator movie – which Black is co-writing with Fred Dekker – isn’t a reboot after all.

“As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway,” Black said, “Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?

Black added that he doesn’t like reboots, but can “really get behind inventive sequels”, saying that “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”

Given that the movie is in production at 20th Century Fox, one can’t help but wonder if they plan to tie it in more closely with Prometheus, wedding the Alien and Predator franchises more convincingly than the daft Alien Vs Predator series.
