AMC’s Preacher TV series, based on the classic Vertigo graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, has been picked up for a 10-episode first season.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote and directed the pilot for the show, starring Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ian Colletti as Arseface, W Earl Brown as Sheriff Hugo Brown, as well as Lucy Griffiths and Elizabeth Perkins as new characters for the show.

Deadline confirmed the news and the 2016 air date for the show, although it’s unclear when next year the show will air (the site is reporting May as a rumour).

The comics tell the story of Jesse Custer, a Southern reverend who’s struggling with his face when he’s suddenly struck by Genesis, which gives him the power to make anyone do anything he says. Realising the incredible possibilities, he sets out with his gun-toting ex-girlfriend Tulip and hard-drinking Irish vampire Cassidy to find God and hold him accountable.

We can’t wait.
