More casting news from AMC’s Preacher TV show, as Deadine reports that Deadwood veteran W Earl Brown has been cast as Sheriff Hugo Root.
Brown, who’s possibly best known for playing Al Swearengen’s right-hand man Dan Dority in the HBO classic, is great casting (to be honest we’d like to see as many Deadwood stars in this as possible). He joins Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun, Elizabeth Perkins and Ian Colletti.
The Hugo Root of the comics is a nasty piece of work, and he’s the father of Arseface (Ian Colletti). Deadline describes the character as “a flinty-eyed, conspiracy-credulous redneck who is not a fool and has a vulnerability to him.”
It does look as though Annville is going to play a bigger part in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s show than it did in the comics, but it’s still very early days for the show, which is still finalising the cast for the pilot.
