Hot on the heels of the Dominic Cooper casting news, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher TV show has cast Weeds‘ Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quincannon.
Deadline reports that Quincannon is “a genteel but formidable businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse in Annville. Ambitious, strong-willed and terrifying, Vyla shares a past with Jesse’s father which gives her a singular hold over Jesse.”
Vyla Quincannon doesn’t appear in the comics, but this definitely sounds like Jesse’s horrifying, bigoted grandmother Marie, who makes life hell for his family.
It also sounds linked to the character of Odin Quincannon, who appears later on in the series. He’s a slaughterhouse king and a nasty piece of work, running the town of Salvation and the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.
Whether these characters have been combined or not remains to be seen, but Perkins is certainly capable of playing horrible people, and Vyla sounds like a worthy opponent for Jesse, Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun).
