Power Rangers new posters reveal the Zords

Get your first glimpse at the Power Rangers movie’s redesigned Zords

If you’ve seen Power Rangers before, you’ll know what we’re talking about when we mention the word ‘Zord’. If not, and we’re baffling you, then here’s a quick refresher: when their powers aren’t enough, they’ll call on a giant robotic guardian controlled by themselves to fight against whoever’s doing them damage.

In their first incarnation, the Zords take the form of the Mastodon (Black Ranger), Pterodactyl (Pink Ranger), Triceratops (Blue Ranger), Sabre-toothed Tiger (Yellow Ranger) and the Tyrannosaurus (Red Ranger). If this still isn’t enough, then they combine together to form (the sequence for which will likely compose much of the film’s budget) the Megazord, which is exactly as awesome as it sounds.

The forms of the Zords changed as the series progressed and changed names (at one point we’re pretty sure the Zords were all humanoids, which was a bit naff, frankly), but judging by the posters, it looks like they’ll take the forms of the Zords seen in the Rangers’ initial form, so it’s nice to see a bit of fidelity to the source material.

Controlling said Zords will be main cast members Naomi Scott, Becky G, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin and Dacre Montgomery, with Elizabeth Banks playing Rita and Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

Power Rangers will be released in cinemas on 24 March 2017. For all the latest movie news, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
