Planet Of The Apes 3 adds first human cast member

Find out who’ll be leading the human resistance in the Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes threequel

War Of The Planet Of The Apes Gabriel Chavarria
Gabriel Chavarria is the first cast member to be confirmed for War Of The Planet Of The Apes

This may come as some surprise, judging by the overall lack of news, but a sequel to Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is on the way, with director Matt Reeves and writer Mark Bomback having been working on the script for some time, under the title of War Of The Planet Of The Apes. Moreover, as Deadline reports, they even have a lead cast member in place: Gabriel Chavarria.

Very much a star on the rise, Chavarria is currently starring in Hulu series East Los High, and is set to star in car-tagging movie Low Riders, with some of his other credits including Freedom Writers, Southland and Prime Suspect. While he doesn’t quite have the star power of previous leads James Franco or Jason Clarke, we’re sure he’ll have support in the Gary Oldman mould to back him up. Whatever happens, as the title suggests, this seems like a suitably apocalyptic sequel, especially considering Dawn ended with the army being notified about the existence of the ape army.

In addition to writing the script, Bomback will co-produce with Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark (all returning after working on Rise and Dawn), with Mary McLaglen (Real Steel, Dodgeball) attached as executive producer.

War Of The Planet Of The Apes will be released in cinemas in 2017. For more on the biggest movies, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
