Phantasm: Ravager trailer sees the Tall Man and Reggie get epic

The spheres are loose and the Tall Man is back in Phantasm: Ravager trailer

With all the excitement surrounding the JJ Abrams-supervised 4K restoration of Don Coscarelli’s classic horror Phantasm, we’d almost forgotten that a brand new Phantasm movie was coming out, the fifth in the series: Phantasm: Ravager.

A new trailer for the film has arrived on EW, which shows that the movie certainly isn’t short on visual spectacle. Reggie Bannister is back as family friend/badass Reggie, as are A Michael Baldwin and Bill Thornbury as Mike and his brother Jody, and the late, great Angus Scrimm makes his final appearance as the fantastically menacing The Tall Man.

Coscarelli co-wrote the film with David Hartman, who also takes over directing duties. Speaking to EW, Coscarelli said that ““It’s a swan song to the series. There’s some new iterations of those brain-shucking spheres and a lot of good stuff that the fans will enjoy. It ties up a lot of the storylines and answers some questions that fans have had.”

There’s also a new trailer for the restoration, which fans can see at the London Film Festival next month. The original film starred Baldwin as the teenage Mike, who discovers that the local mortician is stealing bodies for terrible, monstrous purposes, and becomes a target for The Tall Man and his deadly spheres. It put Coscarelli on the map, and in addition to the cult Phantasm franchise, the filmmaker has also given us such excellent genre works as Bubba Ho-Tep and John Dies At The End.

Phantasm: Ravager will be released on 7 October in the US. No UK release date has been announced. Keep up with the latest horror news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
